Probe Corruption Allegations Against School Feeding Programme
Africa Education Watch is demanding an investigation into allegations of Corruption at the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
According to the Kofi Asare, Executive Director, consequent to media reports regarding allegations of corruption, wrongful payment of funds to the tune of GHC 965,000 to caterers in schools that did not exist and misappropriation of school feeding funds, Eduwatch has cited a letter terminating the appointment of the National Coordinator for the Ghana School Feeding Programme. The letter, which was signed by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection stated no reasons for the termination of appointment, leaving room for various public perceptions to thrive, including genuine accountability concerns .
The group is therefore calling for investigations and public disclosure of findings into the aforementioned allegations, and prosecution, if the allegations are confirmed.
Merely terminating contracts for engaging in alleged corrupt practices does not amount to any form of punishment. Only an inquiry by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and possible prosecution of all actors involved in the alleged practices would deter future similar actions
